We document

What?

The basic pillar of the project is to document the stories of the Second World War survivors and the stories of 2nd generation Holocaust survivors, using the Eye direct audiovisual method used by Post Bellum.

  • 15 memorials from Slovakia,
  • 10 memorials from Norway.

All documented stories can be found in the online archive www.memoryofnations.eu.

Why?

Recordings from Slovakia and Norway will be created in:

  • 5 short 20-minute films in Slovak language,
  • 3 short 20-minute films in Norwegian with Slovak translation.

All movies can also be found on the Youtube channel Post Bellum (hyperlink).

We will also use the recordings of the memorials in the next activity of the project – in the exhibition (We talk).

When?

April-November 2022

What is the Eye direct method?

The technology was developed in the USA, where it was first used by documentary filmmaker Errol Morris. Recording is performed on two HD cameras using the patented Eye Direct device. The semi-transparent mirror system creates a video where the witness maintains eye contact with the documentary filmmaker, even though he is looking directly into the camera lens. The result is a captivating and undisturbed story for the audience.
